Amateurs, Students /  Cello

"Two years ago I have had the opportunity to try a selection of several Arcus bows. In a blind test I tried them all until I found one that is truly ideal for me.

Today I can only laugh when someone speaks of "lesser" sound or "unusual" materials which do not meet the "standards" in bowmaking.

I would rather speak of progress, wonderful sound, extreme durability and the protection of mother nature.

Arcus has managed to use new materials and ideas to create a true alternative. Maybe they have not re-invented the bow but surely they have thoroughly re-designed it after centuries.

If you have the courage to try something new you can find in an Arcus not only a new bow but a friend, with whom you can wonderfully explore the most intimate moments in music."

Jörg Schuster, Österreich

"The ARCUS is definitely the best bow I have ever tried, at an affordable price. I have been trying even very expensive pernambuco bows (from 2,000-10,000 US$) and none satisfied me, compared with the ARCUS Sonata! I have seen in the chat section of the ICS some criticisms about "less sound", but now I think that that "less" is less scratching and less noises."

Josep Galí, Spain

"I play the Arcus bow for 6 month now, alternating with my very good old Neudoerfer.
Initially I expected the bow would not draw the same quality of tone I was used to with my wooden bow, because of the lighter weight and the unusual material. But after testing it in different acoustical situations I found the Arcus bow sounds even more clear and loud, very soft and warm and also needs less force to play it.
I still use my traditional bow, but ever more often I play with the unusual new one. Before I learned about the Arcus bows I thought new materials could never take over from the centuries old tradition of wooden bows, but my Concerto bow convinced me that it is possible indeed."

Christoph Goebel, first cello and conductor of the Kammerorchester Hoechst.

"First, I want to say very loudly and emphatically that I really love playing with this bow. It is definitely wonderful to play. My teacher tried it, too, and he also was extremely impressed with both how it sounded and how it played. He also remarked that the balance and the bounce and control were really excellent. He normally plays with a very heavy, US$ 4.500 bow, so impressing him means a whole lot, in my opinion.
It is an incredibly comfortable bow to play! Extremely easy to manoeuvre, and very responsive! After all my looking at carbon-fibre bows, there is no doubt that this is the best of all I have tried.
Oh, and there is no question to people across the room that the Arcus is the loud bow.
The main bow guy at the violin shop said to me about carbon-fibre: That if you think about it, they are not making carbon-fibre tennis racquets to perform just like wooden tennis racquets... they just try to make the best tennis racquets possible. And that's just what you are doing, except with bows. I think it is exactly the right idea.
I'm happier and happier with this bow every day."

Laura Jenkins, Columbus, Ohio.

"It's been almost a year now that I have been playing with my new Arcus bow, and I must say, I am very impressed and pleased. The repairs to my cello also went extremely well, and I fell like I have made great improvements to my playing.
Anyway, this is just to thank you for the fine product that I have in your bow. Keep up the good work!"

Martin Chamberlain, Canada
