Rehair When the hair of your bow has lost some of its thickness, it is probably time for a rehair. One very important factor for a good rehair is the propper thickness of the strand of hair. It depends mainly on the elasticity and camber of the stick. Only with the correct rehair the bow will offer the best feel and performance. Especially the bows of the Concrto-Series (Sonata, Sinfonia, Concerrto and Cadenza) perform best only with a relative strong rehair. The Allegro and Veloce bows are more felxible and can use a more "regular" rehair.
* Many cellists make full use of the power of their Arcus bows, which can strech out the hair quite fast and thus make a rehair nesseccary too soon. To avoid this we use especially tough hair qualties, like for example the Canadian hair from Sowden & Sons. To help making precise rehairs we have developed a very special tool that now available though us or our distributors. We will be happy to reply to any question regarding the quality and volume of the rehair. We can also supply single pre-sorted hanks. We can of course rehair your Arcus bow if you wish. We can of course rehair other bows too, according to individual appointments. Thumb Leather Another standard repair is the replacement of a worn thumb leather. We use only embossed cow hide for these to avoid any trouble during international travel (protection of endangered species). The cost for one patch is 3,- €.
For bonding the leather we recommend the use of solvent-free contact glue like "Pattex Kraftkleber lösemittelfrei" or "UHU Kraft lösemittelfrei". Hide glue, that is often used on wooden bows, does not work well on the carbon fiber sticks. "Vintage" Arcus Bows: Un-paint and Rework In case you own a bow from our early years it might still be painted black. We will be happy to polish this stick and maybe improve the balance and do a thorough overhaul - free of charge. You only have to take care of the shipping cost. Of course that can be combined with a rehair. Please get in touch with us to check for details. Other Repairs After many years of use it might occur that the screw or eyelet wears out. Such and other repairs can be executed by most Arcus retailers and directly by us. |
